Easter 2014

We enjoyed visiting grandma Hosmer the week before Easter and we celebrated with her, and what a blessing it was. I wish we lived closer. My children adore you grandma! They made homemade Easter baskets and made cutout Easter cookies. Grandma surprised them by telling the Easter bunny that he needed to visit grandmas house early since they were there. They went to bed that night Eager for what they would find in their baskets in the morning.


I worked the night before Easter so on Easter I was pretty tired but we still had a nice breakfast in the morning and I enjoyed watching the littles find their baskets and hunt for Easter eggs.

Later in the afternoon after I napped we went to Gary and JoAnne's for a nice Easter dinner with the rest of his family.

Little thumb sucker

Grant, you are so silly! You stopped sucking your thumb for a while and now your back at it! I hate to say it, but its cute. I just hope you outgrow it before you are six!

Surgery

My entries have been few and far between because life has been so chaotic and it seems as though the days are flying by. March 5th I underwent a bowel resection, a necessary surgery to avoid an emergency surgery later due to a blockage. I had severe narrowing of my sigmoid colon. The surgery itself went on without a hitch but the recovery was another story.

I spent 4 nights in the hospital and was having severe pain. I was on a Morphine pump for a couple of those days, I didn't like it at all. My vision was blurry and all I did was sleep, and when I was awake and moving I still had severe pain. I did better once they shut it off and starting giving me medicine I could just take by mouth for pain.

I was finally discharged on the 4th day and I couldn't wait to get home and see my kiddos. They visited me at the hospital but it was very brief. I was hoping my return home would be easy and I wouldn't have much pain but of course life just doesn't always go as planned. It was one of the most difficult weeks I have ever had in my life. The boys got strep throat and couldn't go to daycare for 2 days and then we got a snow storm and daycare and school were closed. I loved having my family home but it didn't make for an easy recovery those first few days. Luckily, Joe is amazing and took care of everything and didn't seem to mind at all.

One week after my surgery I noticed that my incision started looking infected, so off to the surgeon for a check up. Yep, I was right. So, right there, without any pain medicine she opened the incision up...it was an awful pain. She told me that a visiting nurse would come to my house and do dressing changes and then I would be getting a wound vac. WHAT?? NO! I couldn't believe all of this was happening to me, but it was. Luckily, I had an amazing nurse that helped get me through it. There were ups and downs of the wound vac, it was helping to heal my wound at a faster rate but the tape to secure it was causing my skin to blister and itch. I had it on for 14 days.

I was off work for 6 weeks total, 4 of them were pure hell. The last 2 weeks I was really able to enjoy my family and I was feeling great. We even took a trip to Boyne to visit my grandma. All in all I am happy that I had the surgery but I NEVER want to go through it again.

Grayson is FOUR!

Oh my goodness Grayson, you steal my heart daily. You are FOUR! woah! I swear it was just last week that you were taking your first steps, and here we are celebrating your fourth birthday. You are totally into superhero's and since last year you had a Spiderman party this year you requested Batman. Daddy took pride in decorating your cake and it looked awesome! We just had a small party at home for you with close family since you chose the water park for your birthday destination! You didn't mind at all. We celebrated with Pizza and cake and ice cream, your favorites of course! You enjoyed opening all of your presents but told me the best park was cake and ice cream......guess we can skip the presents next year? haha just kidding!

This year has been just as amazing as the rest with you. I really enjoy watching you turn into a little man. You have always been bests buds with Veda but this year you have become more independent, not always needing or wanting sissy around. I love to watch you play by yourself and see what you truly enjoy because you know, sissy has been making you play dress-up and baby dolls for as long as I can remember and you just went with it...because well, you love her lots. You have made lots of new friends at your new daycare that you began going to in June. You love to talk about Matthew, Brayden, and Brock ......and well Callie.....you told me you were going to marry her! Silly boy, you are FOUR! Lets slow down a little......mommy is the only love of your life right now okay? Okay. Although you have become more independent this year, you are still struggling to sleep alone....you always want to sleep in mommy and daddy's room. I honestly don't mind. I actually cherish that you love us so much that you want to be with us all the time. Someday, I will be begging you to call me once a month or to come visit me so I welcome your late night visits to snuggle. It makes daddy crazy and he carries you back to your room several times a night but you always win at the break of dawn. You still have a temper. You are sweet as pie until someone tells you no or disagree's with you! Wowee! we are working on taming that down a bit. I can't wait to see what this next year brings. You told us that you want to play baseball and hockey so we are working out the details for that. I'm a little nervous to put you in ice skates....you are so accident prone. You are the child that falls from the chair at the kitchen table for no reason and you trip over thin air!

Veda's Birthday surprise!

As mentioned in the previous post Kristine and I had a fabulous trip to Washington D.C planned for our girls for their January birthdays. We could not wait to take them to the American Girl doll store! Veda didn't have a clue! Daddy took the day off work to drive us to the airport. I was soooo excited about this part. You have flown before but you were only 15 months old or so and don't remember. Once we got to the airport your excitement soared! We were early so we had time to watch a lot of planes come and go. When we boarded our plane you chose a window seat and couldn't wait for the plane to take off. Watching the excitement on your face was priceless! I felt like I was experiencing it for the first time as well. Take off was so fun! You were smiling ear to ear. You really enjoyed our flight and you still had no clue where we were going until you saw Kristine and the girls waiting for us at the airport. The weekend was a blast! We went shopping, ate delicious food, and explored the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. 

Veda is 6!!

Every year I am in disbelief when another child turns another year older. The days seem long but the years seem so short. Veda, you continue to grow into a little lady with each passing year.  You are thriving in school and love everything about it....well except sitting next to the kid who eats napkins at lunch. haha! Mrs Morelli always tell me how polite and quiet you are in school. Really? I must look confused when she says these things because at home you are very outspoken, and um not so polite to Grayson! You have even discovered talking back to mommy and daddy ALOT! This means you lose playing on the iPad and miss watching a lot of things you enjoy on TV. I know this is just another phase and together we will get through and survive.

 You have learned so many things this last year. You can tie your shoes, braid hair, ride a bike without training wheels, make paper airplanes, and READ! You seem to pick up words quite easily and can recite a book that has only been read to you a few times. Amazing memory!

For your birthday this year I had a wonderful surprise awaiting you! We were heading to Washington D.C. to meet up with the Kraft girls for a wonderful girls weekend visiting the American Girl Doll store. SO MUCH FUN! You chose Isabelle...she looks so much like you but with brown eyes. We did lots of window shopping at a huge mall, enjoyed lots of delicious food, and went to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. We had a blast!

Before we left we had a low key birthday party at home that included Nana and Papa and a few friends. We enjoyed Pizza and cake and Ice cream and opening presents of course!
